Safety, Health and Environmental Manager - Aurora, MO

Summary

The SH&E Manager serves as the on-site leader responsible for planning and coordinating the company’s safety, health, and environmental programs, utilizing application of safety and environmental principles to analyze and control conditions that contribute to occupational and environmental hazards. As a member of the management team at the company’s key pet food palatant manufacturing facility, based in Aurora, Missouri, the SH&E Manager provides leadership and direction to the local operations team, working as a strong and effective collaborator within a heavily matrixed organizational structure. A champion and facilitator of the company’s behavior-based safety system, the SH&E Manager is charged with partnering with local and regional leadership, as well as teams on the shop floor, to further progress in the journey toward becoming an environment with a true safety culture.

Resposibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Development, implementation and improvement of programs, policies and processes for monitoring and preventing chemical, physical and/or environmental hazards at the facility.
  • Data collection and analysis, as well as recommendations for corrective actions or process improvements related to occupational and environmental health issues such as chemical exposure, fumes, noise, temperatures, dust, vapors, mist, gases, solvents, lighting and ergonomics which are known or suspected of being real or potential detriments to health.
  • On-site environmental, health and safety evaluations and facility emergency response duties.
  • Incident investigation, problem solving, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for all safety, health and environmental incidences and near misses at the facility.
  • Providing guidance, direction and coaching to management, employees, visitors, contractors and others who visit the company’s facilities on company policies and expectations designed to ensure effective safety, health, and environmental compliance.
  • Serves on the behavior-based safety committee as well as the chemical hygiene team and coaches the leaders on driving successful results and improvement efforts.

Education and/or Experience:

Four year degree (B.S.) in Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Risk Management with four or more years of related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

As the go-to for safety, health, and environmental related matters, the SH&E Manager is expected to work on call as needed to successfully support a 24/7 operation. Travel of up to 10% domestic and/or international may be required of the SH&E Manager to support the company’s global business; however, the primary location for the role is in Aurora, Missouri and the SH&E Manager will be expected to reside in the local area and be accessible after hours when needed to support the operation.
