Ensuring coating consistency of petfood: challenges and approaches

Ensuring coating consistency of petfood: challenges and approaches

Which method of testing palatant coating consistency is right for your needs? This AFB study uncovers the pros and cons of four methods.

Multiple methods may be used for analyzing palatant coating consistency on a kibble’s surface. In this study, we tested four of those methods on dry cat kibble: electronic tongue, surface pH, sodium meter and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).

Get the results in AFB researcher Punyatoya Mohapatra’s Petfood Forum 2016 poster presentation, including insights into the questions:
• Why is evaluating palatant coating consistency important?
• What are pros and cons of each method?
• Which method is best for identifying the exact percent coated?
• Which methods are fastest? Most affordable?
